NAES Power Contractors Awarded Alaska Hydroelectric Turbine Installation
NAES Corporation, a broad-based provider of services to the energy industry, announces that NAES Power Contractors, Inc. has been awarded a contract by Kodiak Electric Association (Kodiak) for the installation and commissioning of an 11.25 MW vertical Pelton Turbine/Generator Unit at the Terror Lake Hydroelectric Project, a remote site on Kodiak Island in Alaska.
NAES Power Contractors will provide the labor and supervision for the installation of a third turbine and necessary ancillary equipment in the existing powerhouse. The addition of the third turbine will increase total power plant capacity of the powerhouse to 31 MW. The project helps Kodiak achieve its goal of having 95% of its electrical needs supplied by renewable energy by 2020. The project will provide the city of Kodiak, the U.S. Coast Guard Support Center, and the communities of Chiniak, Pasagshak, and Port Lions with cost-effective and sustainably generated power. The new turbine is scheduled to be placed in service by October 2013.
